I have always had to have a website for my class, but it was never something I was proud of in the past. My required website for school has never really been aesthetically pleasing nor has it been user-friendly. This past spring, I began developing a website through Weebly, and I am so happy with my growing site. |
This website began as a place to share technological tools I was using in my classroom, as well as a place to showcase my grad school work. A blog was added to the website to share my thoughts on teaching, technology, and life. This blog has allowed readers to get to know me a little better and put a face to the website. It also serves as a way to foster communication between educators. I really like that I can have so many resources, such as a blog, parent links, and reviews, all in one place.
My intended audience has grown throughout the development of this website. Initially, the idea of an audience overwhelmed me and was something I sort of scoffed at. Who would actually want to read what I had to say? Through looking at my website's stats over the last few months, I can tell that my number of readers is continuing to grow. Since I liked this site so much and since it was so user-friendly, I decided to specifically add tabs to my website that would target the parent audience. Some resources I included for my students' parents are: sight word lists, ideas to teach sight words at home, learning sites, and classroom rules/behavior plans. Parents are always asking, "how can I support my child at home?" and I want to give them the tools to do this. This website has enabled me to do just that.
I am excited to find more ways I can utilize this site to help me to grow as an educator. I have grown in my understanding of who I am as a teacher through this and want to continue to develop this throughout the future.
