Key Features of Responsive Classroom
There are four key domains which build upon one another:
- Engaging Academics
- Positive Community
- Effective Management
- Developmental Awareness
Morning Meeting
Each day begins with morning meeting. This time sets the tone for the remainder of the day. Students development a sense of community and belonging during this time. The four components of morning meeting are:
- Greeting
- Share
- Activity
- Message
Logical Consequences
Students receive logical consequences for misbehavior in the classroom. Logical consequences can take one of three forms.
1. You Break It, You Fix It
Students have the opportunity to fix a problem they caused.
2. Loss of Privilege
Students lose the opportunity to participate in an activity or use materials if their behavior doesn't match the expectations.
3. Positive Time-Out
Students take a break if they need to calm down and recover self-control.
